“Uh… did you just hear that?” Shaun asks, looking to both Dmitri and I.

Did we hear it? Is absolutely insane, of course we fucking heard it. “Fuck this shit, we can’t wait.” I stammer out, my heart beating a million miles a minute in my damn chest. A gunshot just went off, and our backup isn’t here. Fuck! “I respect it if you two want to wait here, but I can’t do it. Someone text Pain and Pharaoh, tell them shit hit the fan here,” I order, pulling my glock from the back of my jeans before I run up the perimeter of Rafael’s estate.

Honestly, I thought he’d have more security around this joint but I haven’t seen anyone. My thoughts hit me too soon and I see the shadow of what seems to be a man walking towards me. I stand still in front of a column just a couple of feet away, hoping it’ll give me the cover I need to pull this joker into a chokehold, knocking him out quietly. The last thing I want to do is act without thinking, don’t want him signaling the rest of his goons that company has arrived.

He takes a step in my direction so I take advantage of the situation, wrapping my arm around his neck and pulling him into a chokehold. He tries to speak, but fails miserably, instead sounding like a mewing kitten. Kicking his legs, he attempts to break free but alas it won’t work. My grip on him is too strong and after a bit of fighting on his end, he blacks out. I drag the weight of his body a few feet away where I can hide him against some brush incase anyone comes looking for him. The sun has just set, but there is still a bit of light cascading over the area. I have to be very careful right now, all of us do really.

I pull my glock free, darting up the stairs that lead to Rafael’s home. My heart pounds heavily in my chest as I get closer. Every step of the way knowing that I’m moments away from coming face to face with Maria.

Step after waking step I make it onto the tiled porch, making my way to the door. I gotta be honest, I expected more security here. Rafael is dumber than I thought. He must assume that no one would dare harm him in his country. Boy is he wrong, and I can’t wait to see the look on his face when he realizes it.

I put my hand on the iron knob of the door and turn it, pulling it free. As I begin to enter the home I see a flash of light and the next thing I know a shot has rung off yet again, only this time it was much closer. Too close.
